The W is sport video NBA 2K21 MT first single-player career mode to get a women's team sport. It's not a tokenized experience, nor a reskin of things NBA 2K21 already does for the men's match. But it is a glaringly few-to-no-frills experience, and also the absence of investment that I have in my player's development defeats the purpose of a single-player career. Therefore, I can't really warm up to the manner or urge others spend much time trying it. Other than choosing one of 10 participant archetypes -- whose attribute minimums and maximums are all locked -- the only effect I have on my player's development is playing nicely (or not) at a league match. Whatever XP ("MyPoints" in this case) comes out of this, the game uses automatically in a really opaque process.
Developing my player's off-the-court character is a similarly stiff and lifeless progression. Developer diaries before NBA 2K21's launch implied that The W players could take on roles that real-life WNBA stars pursue, whether promoting the team itself, taking on side gigs in media or fashion style, or preparing for a career as a coach. Well, most of this is handled at a process whose sole participant interaction is picking one of 3 options off a card between games. Again, development is fixed, and all it delivers is unlockable makeup items on a predetermined schedule. This means is that you become a very limited core gameplay loop very quickly, and one that is very reminiscent of career manners I watched on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It is hard to predict The W a fantastic first shot career-mode parity when so much of its enjoyability comes out of, well, only playing the games themselves. At least that activity is distinguishable from the rest of NBA 2K21 while still being enjoyable -- but it was when I had been messing about with the WNBA in MyLeague this past year, too.
Likewise, it's hard to criticize Visual Concepts' layout here like pitching female avatars to the much larger world of MyCareer are the simplest or simplest solution. The WNBA deserves to have its own livelihood ecosystem; it is a more supportive statement to provide the WNBA its own mode, rather than just dump them into Cheap MT 2K21 aggressively competitive multiplayer globe and let them fend for themselves or, even worse, patronize them with inflated attribute evaluations.
